An affordable machine Jun 08, 2011
By shawn meade I have been using this machine now for about a month and and have noticed increased muscle mass on my arms. It's great for isolating your bicepts and triceps. If you use this consistantly you'll get results and it wont take long. My arms were so weak from driving a truck and not working my muscles that I started getting pain in my arms. When I started using this machine, I could only curl about 15 pounds. Now less than a month and a half and I'm doing reps of 45 pounds. My biceps are stronger and the aches and pains went away. The only other thing I could ask, is for Body Solid to make this machine compatible for doing leg curls. It upsets me that I have to pay another $350.00 for a leg curl machine that looks just like this one, just with a few modifications. But than again, why do that when you can charge more for a nearly identical machine. Certainly worth the money and 5 stars.

no lines, no problem May 01, 2009

This used to be my favorite machine at the gym and I was continually annoyed by people lining up to use it, stressing me out and shortening my rep cycle. Now I've got the machine at home and I couldn't be happier.
This is a solid, sturdy, gym-quality machine.

Decent, but suffers from inherent flaws . . . Jul 08, 2011
By Lawdaddy First, it should be noted that this machine is set up for "standard" weight plates. If you want to use olympic plates you have to get an adapter. Although they claim the 14" adapter is what works with the machine, I suspect the 8" would be a much better fit. I'm sure there's 6" or so of just plastic hanging off the end because the actual bar is pretty short.
Second, they really should have included a place to lock your legs in. I find it pretty difficult to plant myself when using higher weights (particularly when doing tricep extensions). I find myself getting my legs into odd angles on the floor, which ultimately forces me to support part of my weight that way--which then leads to movement of the machine when doing the reps (I'm not using 5 pounds here).
Also, I'd say the biggest issue with this and any other angled plate machine is that the resistance is not constant throughout the entire range of movement. As the weight moves up it becomes heavier. Though this seems good from an ergonomic perspective, it results in extremely easy curls at the lower end that progress to extreme difficulty at the top. I may try using this more for partial curls so as to maintain consistency--a full curl changes a lot throughout the movement.
Finally, be forewarned that your unit will arrive banged up. The packing is less than desirable and they even include touch up paint in the box--leading me to believe they are aware of the problem.
It's a decent station, but not quite what I remember from a commercial setting. Although the weight issue is annoying, it is a good way to round out your bicep program since you typically lose weight at the top of your curl when using free weights (the opposite of the case here). But, I don't think this is the be all end all machine by any means.

Solid Machine Jun 28, 2011

The Bicep Tricep Machine by Body Solid is a very well built and sturdy exercise machine. It really works the biceps to the max. I would have rated it 5 stars if not for the fact that the instructions that come with it is basically useless. It gives a diagram of the machine and it's parts and that is it. You basically have to figure it out on your on via trial and error. It took a good hour to put together. Once you figure it out and put it together, you have a good machine. Other negative is they are slow in shipping, but this is balanced out by the fact that the shipping is free. Buying it through Amazon is a big plus because you save a few hundred dollars on quality machine.

Love the Machine but... Apr 03, 2011
By Dave Weber The machine itself is fantastic. Sturdy, smooth, and hits the targeted areas perfectly. Body Solid makes a good product. However, the packaging is a problem. This machine seemed to be a return. When I received and opened the package, everything was just thrown in there. Fortunately all the parts were there but when I opened it I thought there would be no way they would. Recommend the machine highly, but be wary of what Amazon is shipping because it appears to be a third party set up.
