 Great dumbells, great prices, and fast shipping Dec 03, 2009

This is a very high quality set of dumbells; each much better built (not to mention way nicer looking) than the standard cast iron dumbell. They don't chip or make a loud noise when struck together. A couple very minor things to note is that they have a black greasy coating on the rubber that should be wipped off well before use (unless you don't mind black marks on anything they touch). Also, the do have a slight rubber smell - not overpowering, but noticeable when entering the room. After a few weeks it is still present. I've noticed the same smell in gyms and never heard anyone complain. All in all, I am very satisfied with this dumbell set.

I have the Bowflex Selectech 552 dumbbells, but one of them broke. One caveat with those and that you put all your eggs in one basket, which is why I started looking into individual dumbbells. If one breaks, you're only out $10 to $50 to replace it.
Positives:
+ Superior build quality. I expect these to last years and years.
+ Shipping was a good experience. This is a 550 lb. package! Freight company organized delivery and put it right at my doorstep.
+ Reading other dumbbell reviews, some have a rubber, stinky smell. These have just a faint smell, less than a Kong dog toy. I would have had to knock it down a star if it did.
Negatives:
- None so far. I'm very pleased with these weights, and certain this was the best package for the price.

We ordered this set of weights recently and quit the gym. No excuse not to work out anymore. Great product. The weights are well made and easier to deal with because they are rubber.

This set is exactly what I expected. These dumbbells are a quality product, I store them on the Body Solid 3 tier rack and they all fit on the rack. Here's what you need to know; They show up in a cheap crate that's just welded metal strips for a frame and cheap plywood. Inside are individually boxed dumbbells, so you'll end up with a lot of cardboard. The dumbbells smell like rubber but that goes away after awhile. As other reviewers have said, they are greasy. I took the time to wash each of them in the kitchen sink with dish detergent. I've had no issues with them leaving marks on anything. Each dumbbell has a made in China sticker on it, I removed those while I cleaned them. I broke down the crate by breaking the wood into smaller pieces. If you can't do this, lift these weights for awhile and you'll be able to. I then hacksawed the frame apart to fit in my garbage can. As you can see, there's some initial work but once that's done, this is a great set of dumbbells to have.
