1Life Fitness X8 is a piece of junk  Mar 06, 2011
By Normal user
This machine is an overpriced piece of junk. There are electrical wires that are run through the small arm that connects to the stride motor unit. Due to the design of the machine, these wires get flexed (bent) with every revolution of the machine. If you use the machine regularly, one of the wires in the harness will break resulting in an error code.

During the first year that you own the machine, they will send someone to fix it. How do they fix it? They replace the wire -- a 2 hr job. Several months later, another wire will break, if you are still within the 1 yr labor warranty, they will come and replace it again.

But they are not actually fixing the machine, they are just replacing an improperly designed part which will fail over and over and over again until you are sick of it not working and stop using it.

Considering what this machine costs, they should figure out how to actually fix the root cause of the problem so that it does not keep happening over and over again.

As it is right now, there is no fix. So don't buy this machine if you plan on using it.

1don't buy  Jul 03, 2011

I purchased this unit and have thus far had to have 4 separate service calls. two on the electrical, two on parts that have broken. Stay away from this unit, it is a lemon.

The top of the top as far as ellipicals - very happy with this machine. Smooth gliding, quiet, high technology - go for the advanced workout console - this is a machine that will last a lifetime!

1LIFE FITNESS IS UNRELIABLE  Apr 08, 2010
By Stephen Friedman
I purchased the Life Fitness X8 Elliptical Cross Trainer with the advanced console seven weeks ago. The Whisper eStride technology boasts a remarkably quiet, fluid electronic stride. However, my machine made a grinding sound with perceptible vibration. It was not comfortable to use for 30 minutes.

The activity zone module stride length was a major factor for my purchase since it would allow me to vary the distance from 18" to 24" to target different lower body muscle groups. In less that two months, one of the motors malfunctioned and the machine cannot be used due to the disparate stride lengths. I cannot recommend Life Fitness due to the poor construction and unreliability.

5Awesome Elliptical  Feb 18, 2012

I use my Lifefitness X8 at least 5 to 6 days per week for at least an hour per day. I did have to have one service call because it started making a little noise inside the back drum area as I used it (not all the time, just sometimes). But the Life Fitness tech was great, he came and examined it then came back again with the parts. I could even use it while we waited for the parts to come in. I love this machine. I have been using it for over 9 months and I have not had any of the problems everyone is complaining about. I have tried all the brands at numerous gyms and decided upon this Life Fitness X8 because it was thinner than the gym model. Really Life Fitness is the only one I would even consider purchasing (after having used numerous other brands). I have no affiliation with Life Fitness at all, I just love their equipment. I own their Lemond Exercise bike and the X8 Elliptical and would not hesitate to purchase them again. I used the X7 elliptical as a loaner for 2 months while my X8 was on backorder. It was very nice too. I would definitely recommend this elliptical machine to anyone.
